Asthma and allergies are not produced by a single irritant, but by an accumulation of minor irritants that eventually overwhelm the bodys ability to adapt. It is not a huge leap to imagine that removing a respiratory irritant from the sleeping environment, where a person spends one third of their time, is going to produce an improvement in a childs ability to breathe. Allergy and asthma are conditions that go hand in hand. Over 50 percent of asthmatics have their triggers in allergic reactions to their environment and diet.
There are many different triggers that cause one to have an asthma attack. The majority of asthma attacks are caused by allergens, pet dander, dust, mold, cold or hot weather, moist air, cigarette smoke, exercise and sometimes even stress.
Allergic asthma due to pollen is a good example. Whereas about 90 percent of the population can inhale large amounts of pollen from grasses and ragweed, which bloom during spring and autumn, the remaining 10 percent of the population suffer from hay fever or pollen asthma. The link between the nose and the airways is obvious. Anyone who suffers from hay fever, called pollinosis in medical terminology, will complain about the discomfort it causes.
While everyone else enjoys the first signs of summer, the sunshine, the warmth and the blooming of the meadows, the person suffering from hay fever hides behind the drawn blinds because otherwise, his eyes run and the itching of the eye becomes intolerable. A person suffering from hay fever may also experience a constantly running nose, difficulty of breathing through the nose and may feel generally ill although the illness seems to be so harmless.
The prescribed medications given for those problems speed up their hearts and suppress the immune system making it impossible to get better, when they should normalize their immune system instead. Asthma and allergies are frequently under treated by both physicians and patients during pregnancy. This may be due to the fear of adverse effects medication may have on the fetus.

Asthma Prevention - Know how to Prevent Asthma
By peter hutch
Asthma is a condition that affects the respiratory system of a person. When one has an attack, the airways swell and make air passage through them difficult. As a result, asthma symptoms are felt and they include; wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath and tightness in the chest. Asthma disease has no cure and thus prevention is the only sure way of controlling it.
Asthma affects one in four people on average and is present in all age groups. Asthma symptoms include wheezing, an overproduction of mucus and excessive coughing. The symptoms are the result of muscular over activity causing inflammation and mucus production. It can be triggered by allergies, emotions or stress. Most people have warning signs that an attack is coming on and can treat it with prescription medications such as Albuterol.
There are various medications that are used for this purpose. Preventive inhalers is one of them. This is used frequently to stop an attack from happening. The inhaler helps to decongest the lungs and allow for air to flow freely in and out. They ease the tightness from the chest. The chances of an attack are reduced. Asthma prevention is important because the patient is at a lower risk of making the disease severe.
Asthma can also be prevented by taking care of one's surroundings. In the cases of a working environment that could probably be dealing with toxic chemicals, proper protection gear should be used to prevent one from inhaling the toxic chemicals.
Rooms and other damp areas should also be avoided as mould can often grow in such areas and the mould spores can become airborne and trigger asthma attacks in the same way as pollen. Always use an extraction fan in bathroom areas and if necessary wipe excess water from walls etc after showering to prevent mould from growing.
Dust mite allergens are known to play a major role in it's development. Researchers have determined that other important allergens (after dust mites) that also need to be eliminated from the home are cats, certain types of mold, dogs, cockroaches and tobacco smoke. It is a popular misconception that children will "outgrow" asthma. It is a severe and potentially life-threatening illness that should be taken seriously. Long term use of steroid drugs is not recommended by doctors and has serious side effects
Purchase vent filters for each vent in your home. It will cut back on air borne particles that can get asthma irritated. If you can’t get the whole home at least get the room the asthma patient sleeps in.
Asthma remedy is given to patients with an asthmatic condition. Infants, children and adults have various remedies for this condition. They could be similar or different depending on the condition of an individual. Asthma affects the airways and therefore air is not transported as it should to the lungs. One remedy for asthma is prevention and one should therefore avoid the causes.

Eliminate Toxins from Your Home
By Carol Belanger
The cleaning supply business is a multi-billion dollar business. Society is convinced that they must use these toxic and environmentally destructive products for their home to be considered clean. However, are you aware of just how harmful common cleaning supplies are to your health, the health of your children and the environment? Many household cleaning supplies including laundry detergents, toothpaste and shampoo contain formaldehyde.
Most common household cleaners stored in you home are considered hazardous waste by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Furthermore, the EPA has determined that indoor air quality is at least 100 times more polluted than outdoors due to the use of toxic cleaning products which leaves residue in the air and on the surface. Most common household cleaners are petrochemically derived or a synthetic thereof. These petrochemical products are literally produced from crude petroleum oil. When using these types of products the residue left in the air or on the surface is absorbed through the skin and thus enters the blood stream which is then absorbed into the fatty tissues. Studies have shown that these toxins can lead to a multitude of diseases such as asthma, allergies, and auto-immune diseases and even ADD. Ironically, over the past few decades, cases of cancer and asthma have grown significantly. Researchers have concluded that there is a direct correlation between petrochemical cleaning products and disease.
Not only are common household cleaners detrimental to your health they are just as detrimental to the environment. In the U.S. we pour down 22 million pounds of household toxins down the drain. Most of the products are not adequately processed by sewage treatments or septic tanks. The long term effect of these toxins on our environment will offend our surface and ground water. Additionally, if every household in the United States replaced one 28 oz bottle of petroleum based cleaner with a bio-based product, we would save 118,700 barrels of oil per year.
In order to protect the health of our families and the environment, there are safer alternatives for cleaning. Bio-based, degradable, and environmentally products are available. When purchasing green cleaning supplies be wary. Products claiming to be eco-safe, environmentally friendly and natural does not necessarily mean it is non-toxic. There is no regulation on the above terms and thus manufacturers add these terms to their product label and deceive the public into thinking they are purchasing safe cleaning supplies. This type of deceptive marketing is called greenwashing. If a product label indicates that it needs special handling or ventilation be forewarned that it is detrimental to your health and the environment. There is no need to expose yourself or your environment to these toxins.
When purchasing cleaning supplies it is imperative that you read the label. The product label should identify true eco-friendly ingredients such as grain alcohol versus the toxin 2-butoxyethanol, a solvent. Disinfectant type products should contain plant oils derived from eucalyptus, rosemary or sage rather than a registered pesticide such as triclosan which is found in anti-bacterial soaps.

Asthma and Its Symptoms
By Rudy Silva
In his book, Essential Allergy, Niels Mygind defines asthma as,
"A lung disease characterised by: 1, variable and reversible airway obstruction; 2, airway inflammation; and 3, bronchial hyper-responsiveness."
Asthma is a disease where bronchial tubes are sensitive to irritants, which cause them to inflame and produce difficult breathing. The inflammation can cause,
* contraction of muscles around the air passages,
* swelling of the airway lining due to airway inflammation, and,
* excessive mucus in the airways.
Asthma occurs in most western countries and is the leading chronic illness of children.
Asthma, in some cases, cannot be cured, but for most patients it can be controlled so that they have only minimal and infrequent symptoms and they can live an active life.
If you have asthma, managing it is an important part of your life. Controlling your asthma means staying away from things that bother your airways and taking medicines or natural remedies as directed by your doctor.
When a person experiences a worsening of their asthma symptoms, it is called an asthma episode or, in severe cases, an asthma attack. During an asthma attack, smooth muscles around the bronchial tubes contract, making the airway openings narrower so less air can flow through. Inflammation increases and the airways become more swollen and narrow. Cells in the airways also make more mucus than usual, which narrows the airways further. The changes to the airways cause the symptoms of asthma.
Asthma attacks are not all the same-some are worse than others. In a severe asthma attack, the airways can close so much that not enough oxygen gets to vital organs. This condition is a medical emergency. People can die from severe asthma attacks. A person suffering from an asthma attack has a sensation similar to drowning.
Learning the warning signs or asthma symptoms can often alert a sufferer in time to take preventive action, such as medication or natural remedies.
Asthma attacks can occur over a long period of time. Although there are times when acute episodes strike asthmatics, most asthma sufferers say that there are long periods during which they suffer few, if any, asthma symptoms.
Here are some asthma symptoms:
* Coughing. Coughing in people with asthma is often worse at night or early in the morning, making it hard for them to sleep. This may be the only symptom a child with asthma has.
* Wheezing. Wheezing is a whistling or squeaky sound when you breathe.
* A tight feeling in the chest. This can feel like someone is squeezing or sitting on your chest.
* Shortness of breath. Asthma sufferers often say they can't catch their breath, or they feel breathless or out of breath.
* Narrowing of the air passages in the lungs and hence increased resistance to airflow.
* Significant reversibility with steroid drugs
* Symptom-free periods
* Frequent occurrence of allergy
* Inflammation of the air passages
* Bronchial hyper-responsiveness to non-specific stimuli such as cold air, air pollution, pollen, dust, or other irritants
* Asthma symptoms brought on by exercises
* Coughing or wheezing brought on by prolonged crying or laughing
Not all people have these symptoms, and symptoms may vary from one asthma attack to another. Some symptoms are mild and some are life threatening.
Symptoms also differ in how often they occur. Some people with asthma only have symptoms once every few months, others have symptoms every week, and still other people have symptoms every day.
